Maiden of the White Hands

lyrics

The time has come to depart, to bid adieu to this warm and loving sanctum:
for all this freedom you have enjoyed,
this ardor that has possessed you cannot be grasped nor held.
Safety is evanescent, and goodness cannot be had without sacrifice.

Set sail on a sea of troubles and take on the adventure that shall decide thy fate. Comfort shall be naught but a memory as blades are drawn.
Pain is real. Fear is real. Death is real. Decide thy fate.
These hardships must not be hidden away forever.
Set sail under a pitchblack sky. The stars shy their faces from thy strength.
Some tasks must only be undertaken in horrid solitude.

The waters writhe with temptation.
Tempestuous monsters kiss the light, churning and boiling in hatred.
Raise thy hands. The cruel poison has you, and you perspire in agony.

As before, one must rest - let her bathe thy brow -
let her coo soothing words to your envenomed ear - let the lyre be struck -
retreat has been your salvation.
Honeydew, rue, rosewater, and myrrh be thy balm.

In the dim light of dawn, an image emerges just beyond the horizon.
It is a strain to see it.

Are the sails white, or black...?
